About Donner Ski Ranch, California

Nestled high atop Donner Summit in the Tahoe National Forest, Donner Ski Ranch offers a classic, no-frills ski experience with a rich history dating back to 1937. Established with the help of famed Jerry Ellis, who installed the area's first uphill lift—a rope tow—the resort has been a staple for skiers seeking an authentic mountain experience.

Over the decades, the resort has evolved, adding a T-Bar in 1948 and one of California's first chairlifts in 1955. In the 1970s, it became one of the first ski resorts in the country to allow snowboarding, telemark skiing, and snow bobbing, solidifying its reputation as a progressive and inclusive destination for snow sports enthusiasts.

Today, under the ownership of Marshall and Janet Tuttle, Donner Ski Ranch remains a family-owned and operated resort. The Tuttles have reinvested in the resort's infrastructure, rebuilding all chairlifts and adding state-of-the-art grooming and snow removal equipment, all while maintaining their value-based model of making skiing accessible to all.
